Overview
We delivered a critical pipeline infrastructure upgrade across two key stages: the construction and commissioning of a new DN500 PN16 HDPE header system and associated infrastructure, and the safe realignment and upgrade of the existing DN450 PN16 decant pipeline.
Scope of work
Stage 1: New Header Installation & Commissioning
- Bulk and detailed earthworks to prepare the new spigot bench and tie-in areas
- Supply, welding, and installation of DN500 PN16 HDPE header pipelines, droppers, bends, reducers, and spigot assemblies
- Installation of permanent steel T-pieces, valves, and mechanical anchors
- Installation of cable trays, supports, power and control cabling, and associated electrical works
- Hydrostatic testing, functional checks, and full commissioning of header lines and valve assemblies
Stage 2: DN450 Decant Pipeline Realignment
- Installation of 900m of new DN450 pipeline infrastructure
- Working within the live autonomous operating zone liaising with stakeholders to minimize disruption to operations
- Decommissioning and removal of the existing DN450 pipeline
- Associated bulk earthworks and excavation works
- Hydrotesting, functional testing, and commissioning of the new system
Challenges
Stage 2 was carried out within a live autonomous operating zone, which meant liaising with stakeholders to minimise disruption to operations. The project required detailed planning and strong coordination across civil, mechanical and electrical disciplines.
Solution
Integrated delivery from earthworks to commissioning, with a continued focus on safety and quality throughout.
Highlights
- New DN500 PN16 HDPE header lines and valve assemblies hydrostatically tested and fully commissioned
- 900m of new DN450 decant pipeline installed, tested and commissioned
- Existing DN450 pipeline decommissioned and removed
