BAYSWATER POWERSTATION BOILER 3 ABRASIVE BLASTING

Home / Projects / Bayswater PowerStation Boiler 3 Abrasive Blasting

Doolee were engaged by Downer to complete abrasive blasting works to seven superheater tube panels and slip- ties within Boiler 3 Boiler Bayswater Power Station. The abrasive blasting is performed to facilitate crack testing to the tube ties and welds for AGLM.

The Works were scheduled to be completed during a 10-day planned outage with two crews operating day and night shifts to facilitate operation of 4 x blast nozzles.

The works inside the boiler were classed as confined space, and access to the panels was achieved by fixed scaffolding. Over 200t of scaffold was installed within the boiler to provide access to the work areas. Doolee’s works fronts were split across 12 separate levels within the scope spanning from 40metres to 90metres above ground level.  Careful planning and specialised equipment were deployed to complete the works. 2 x 1050cfm compressors were utilised to achieve adequate pressure required to vertical distances of 90m from plant lay-down area. Dust extraction units were also utilised to assist visibility.
